Heath Concerns
The Queen cancelled many of her public engagements after spraining her back. Her doctors had advised her to rest after spending a night in hospital last month for an undisclosed condition and sustaining an injury two weeks later.
Many have raised concerns about the health of the monarch, 95, after she was spotted using a walking stick for the first time in nearly two decades.
But according to sources quoted by the Mirror, the queen is in a position to go through with Christmas plans. A source told the publication:
The Queen has told everyone she is feeling far better of late and is very much looking forward to welcoming them for Christmas. Like many other families, this will be the first time Her Majesty can gather with her extended family after being kept apart for so long due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This will be the first Christmas she’ll be hosting since the death of her husband of 73 years in April.
Royal Invitation
The Royals set to join the Queen for Christmas include Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Cambridge children.
Others include Prince Edward, his wife Sophie and their children, as well as Princess Anne and her children Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall.
Contrary to rumours, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be joining the family for Christmas this year. According to some media reports, the Sussexes will be spending the holidays with their two children, two-year-old Archie and five-month-old Lilibet, at their base in California. It is being reported that the couple turned down the Queen’s invitation to avoid a ‘media frenzy’.
