Ordered to rest up
Although this time around her absence was due to an apparent sprained back, just three weeks ago, she had to cancel her appearance at a two-day visit to Northern Ireland at the very last minute. At the time, it was confirmed that she was advised by her doctors to rest up following accumulated exhaustion as a result of a slew of public engagements.
It was only later revealed that the Monarch was actually staying at a hospital for 'preliminary investigations'—a cryptic statement that palace officials have refused to expand on. As it stands currently, it appears the Queen has been asked by doctors to rest for at least another two weeks. One source close to the family told the Daily Mail:
I firmly believe the public won’t see her out and about as much. That said, she will still be visible, carrying out less taxing engagements within palace walls.
Adding that:
The whole video and virtual engagement development as a result of Covid has given palace aides options they didn’t have before. But there will definitely be a change in pace.
Boris Johnson reassures the public
But although the British public has grown more and more concerned for the Queen's well-being, PM Boris Johnson said during a press conference with the Downing Street press:
I know that everybody will be wanting to offer their best wishes to her majesty the Queen and I just wanted to reassure everybody by saying that I did see the Queen for an audience last week on Wednesday in Windsor and she’s very well. It shouldn’t need saying but I just wanted to say it anyway.
