Queen Camilla was not the cause of the separation
Royals author Ingrid Seward mentioned a conversation she allegedly had with the late Princess Diana in the British newspaper The Sun. In it, it appears that the royal made it clear to Seward that the now Queen Consort was not to blame for her separation with then Prince Charles.
That bit of news surprised Seward who, in her interview, said:
She had this spectre of Camilla in her head the whole time, she was obsessed
It is true that Princess Diana has been known to hint at Camilla during interviews. The most famous example is her Panorama interview in 1995. In it she was asked by Martin Bashir:
Do you think Mrs Parker-Bowles was a factor in the breakdown of your marriage?
To which she famously answered:
Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.
However, it appears that after her divorce in 1996, she reconsidered Parker-Bowles' impact on her mariage.
It was the people around King Charles
When royal expert Seward last spoke to the mother of Princes William, 41, and Harry, 39, before her tragic accidental death, she explained to her that it wasn't Camilla who ruined the marriage. She explains in an interview with The Sun:
She said: 'It was those people around my husband'.
Over the years, it has become even more apparent that marrying into the Royal Family isn't easy and Lady Diana Spencer was just 20 years old at the time of her wedding. Seward explains:
It was the kind of environment where you had to be very strong to sustain a royal marriage, and probably much more mature than she was.
In the Firm, everything is planned down to the last detail
They are considered the most powerful people in the service of the Royal Family, but always remain in the background and are responsible for making the British royals look good. These are the closest members of staff, especially the private secretaries.
The so-called 'Men in Grey' are known for having everything under control. But it's not just them. In April 2024, it came to light that the designer of Princess Diana's wedding dress had prepared a back-up dress just in case something happened to the first. Thankfully, the second dress was never needed. Turns out that working for the Royal Family has a huge impact on people, whether or not they are private secretaries!
Maybe, Princess Diana was onto something when she blamed the people around King Charles as the source of their issues. Her own son, Prince Harry, has also pointed out that issue...
