What did they inherit?
The Princess of Wales requested to put her entire estate in a trust that would be accessed only once the younger of the two, Prince Harry, would turn 25 years old. Part of Lady Di's possessions that would go to her sons included her iconic wedding dress which was was handed to them in 2014.
The dress, which has since been referenced countless times, was a silk gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel for her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles which came with hand sewn pearls and a 25ft train. In an interview with the BBC, designer Elizabeth Emanuel explained that:
We just went for drama. It was everyone's idea of a fairy princess.The time was perfect for that. It was a time of frills and flounces.
Since acquiring the dress, the princes have loaned the dress to Historic Royal Palaces, where it is part of the Royal Style in the Making exhibition at Kensington Palace.
A dress Lilibet could one day wear?
As well as having inherited what could very possibly be considered one of the world's most recognizable wedding dresses, Prince Harry and Prince William also received their mother's personal jewellery, tiaras, letters and photographs. Finally, they were also given the score and lyrics to Elton John's adapted version of 'Candle in the Wind', which is the song that was performed at her funeral.
With the birth of Lilibet, perhaps we can expect the dress to make an appearance the day she decides to get married. Afterall, as the old adage says, the bride should wear something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.
