According to sources at Left Bank Pictures – a British film and television production company that produces The Crown exclusively for Netflix – Sarah contacted them to seek a partnership to convert her novel, Her Heart For A Compass, into a TV series.
It is said that the conversation quickly shifted to The Crown and the discussion of her depiction in the series came up. Fergie allegedly helped out with information for the portrayal of her role and other Royals in the show. A source claimed:
She made repeated contact via emails and on the phone. She offered advice and background information and said that she had an inside view which would make her invaluable to the show as a consultant.
However, the Duchess has now denied these claims. A spokesperson for Fergie told MailOnline:
The Duchess was in contact with Andy Harries, who produces The Crown, last year and they had a discussion about adapting her novel, Her Heart For A Compass, into a TV series.
They did not discuss The Crown, or any idea of her helping with the series in any way. Such a suggestion was made separately at one point by a mutual friend, but was not progressed by either side.
A source close to the Duchess also previously confessed that Fergie thought to ‘simply offer some insight into her character’ but ‘there were no discussion of any fee.’
Fergie’s side of the story
Sarah has frequently discussed the contentious programme, saying that she has seen it and found it to be ‘filmed beautifully.’ She then in an interview said:
I did write to Andy Harries, who produced The Crown, but it was more about the idea of getting Her Heart For A Compass turned into a film or a TV series than it was about my portrayal.
Although now the Duchess has denied any association with The Crown as season 5 is making more controversy than ever.
