A sad day for the Duchess of Cornwall
According to The Times, Charles Villiers’ body was found by a housekeeper at Durrants Hotel, Marylebone, West London.
A spokesman for the MetPolice said:
Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 13:11hrs on Thursday 18th August to reports of an unresponsive man at a hotel on George Street, W1.
The spokesman added that the death 'had been investigated' and that 'it is not suspicious.'
According to friends of the deceased, Villiers had been in the UK to visit a health clinic because his mental health had deteriorated. However, Villiers never attended the clinic. He, instead, booked himself into a London hotel, where he is thought to have taken his own life.
Who was Charles Villiers?
Villiers is a distant cousin of Camilla Parker-Bowles. He made headlines earlier this year after losing the latest stage of his ongoing divorce battle with his estranged wife, Emma Villiers, The Sun reports.
Villiers separated from Emma in 2014. The 59-year-old has been involved in a bitter divorce row since he filed for divorce in 2016, making it one of the longest-running divorce rows in Britain.
According to The Telegraph, he and his wife have been ‘financially ruined’ and ‘psychologically damaged’ by the lengthy court battle. A judge is said to have commented on the ‘extraordinarydegree’ofhatred between the pair.
In February of this year, Villiers split from his partner of five years, Heidi Innes. She confirmed the split to The Mail on Sunday, telling the newspaper of further financialdifficulties.
The Times also reported that Villiers has fallen ‘into financial difficulty.’ Other reports show that the aristocrat was bankrupt following the eight-year-long legal battle.
The Times also said Villiers had been living on his friend’s yacht in Greece before he flew back to the UK.
