What do we know about season 6?
The Crown season five is due to air in November. It should have been the last season. But the show's creator, Peter Morgan, said that 'to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story', six seasons were needed.
According to Vogue, season 6 deals with the same era as season 5 but will allow the show to delve deeper into the events that marred the Royal Family in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Speaking about the sixth and final season, Peter Morgan said:
To be clear, series six will not bring us any closer to present-day – it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.
Vogue guesses that season 6 will likely air in 2023 or 2024 as filming has yet to start.
Kate Middleton and Prince William
Deadline reported that two separate actors would play Prince William. Rufus Kampa takes on the role of Prince William aged 15 and will star in episodes tackling the death of Princess Diana.
Ed McVey will portray the prince's early adult years, including William's courtship of Kate and how they met at the University of St Andrews in 2001.
Meg Bellamy assumes the role of Kate Middleton. BBC News reports that she landed her debut role after submitting self-taped auditions.
While Rufus Kampa has starred on stage, The Crown will mark the screen debut for all three actors.
The role of Prince Harry has yet to be filled. BBC News reports Prince Harry described the drama as 'fictional' but 'loosely based on the truth', stating that it was 'not strictly accurate'.
