The Queen - as the Head of State - has to carry out a lot of royal duties that need her attention. She has a busy lifestyle and definitely doesn’t have the time to have sore feet or blisters that may disrupt her work.

Wear-in

And like all of us, Her Majesty is also at risk of going through suffering from pinching, rubbing or blisters from a new pair of heels. For the last 50 years, the monarch hasn’t worn anything but a pair of low-heeled black shoes, confirms Mirror. The Queen refers to them as her ‘work shoes.’

To avoid getting hurt or sore feet from her new shoes, the Queen employs a trick with the help of her dresser and confidant Angela Kelly. It has been reported that the 96-year-old monarch requires an assistant to wear-in her shoes. Angela Kelly wrote a book in 2019 - The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, The Dresser and the Wardrobe – where she spilt the beans on this shoe trick. She wrote:

The Queen has very little time to herself and no time to wear in her own shoes, and as we share the same shoe size it makes the most sense this way.

Angela has worked with the Queen for decades now and has the title of - personal assistant, adviser, and curator – apart from being her most trusted confidant.

Foot-land

When you think of a working position in the palace, you would think that life would be glorious and glamorous. The truth, however, is different – out of the many duties carried out in the palace, taking care of Her Majesty’s shoes is the most bizarre one, reports My London. A footman or a group of footmen have to look after her shoes every day.

They get hold of the worn-in new footwear of the monarch and then air them out on a shoe tree. Then the shoes go for polishing before being stored in silk or cotton drawstring bags.
