Will the Queen’s Jubilee become a bank holiday?
There have been campaigns to make June 3 a permanent bank holiday starting from 2023. The move to make this happen is backed by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Hospitality UK, the Archbishop of Canterbury and others.
According to The Telegraph, the idea is also supported by Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer as well as by Boris Johnson and his wife.
The bank holiday would be ‘Thank Holiday’
The proposed name would be ‘thank holiday’ which would recognise the Queen’s ‘extraordinary service’ especially over the past few years. According to The Telegraph, Downing Street has asked the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) to carry out a review of the matter.
The Treasury is not saying no off the bat despite previously being institutionally allergic to the idea of a new bank holiday.
Rishi is supportive of the campaign and the thought behind it and has asked for all the projected costs.
