Her personal adviser and dresser Angela Kelly, who manages her dressing room, informed British newspaper The Daily Mail of a decision by the Queen: she will no longer wear animal fur.
‘If Her Majesty is due to attend an engagement in particularly cold weather, from 2019 onwards fake fur will be used to make sure she stays warm’
While Buckingham Palace has not made any decisions regarding the future of the queen's old coats made of animal fur, they have made it clear that all future outfits will be made of synthetic material:
‘As new outfits are designed for the Queen, any fur used will be fake’
It is, therefore, possible that Prince Charles' mother may continue to wear fur clothing which is already in her wardrobe.
This new commitment was nevertheless celebrated by the PETA association, which campaigns for animal protection:
‘This royal commitment is a sign of the times. In 2019, no one can justify subjecting animals to the agony of being confined for life or caught in steel traps, electrocuted, gassed and skinned alive for fur products - a material that is also dangerous to our health and whose production is extremely polluting.’
