August 31st, 1997 remains a date engraved in the memory of many people around the world. And for good reason, it was on this day that Lady Diana, former British princess, died in a traffic accident in Paris, under the Alma bridge.

The Mercedes driven by driver Henri Paul crashed into a parapet. The driver died, as did Lady Di and her companion at the time, Dodi Al-Fayed. Only one person survived this horrific accident, Trevor Rees-Jones, who was Dodi Al-Fayed's bodyguard.
Miraculously surviving, the man was disfigured during the accident. Surgeons had to put 150 pieces of titanium into his face. He was also placed in a coma for ten days.
A surprising destiny
He then handed in his resignation to Dodi Al-Fayed's father, before moving to his mother and stepfather's home in Shropshire. Trevor Rees-Jones went on to work in a sports shop.
In the year 2000, the bodyguard published his book‘The Bodyguard's Story: Diana, The Crash and The Sole Survivor,’in which he reviewed the conditions of the accident. Very discreet since the year 2000, he is still in Shropshire today at his wife's side. His work? Security consultant. His passion? Rugby. In fact, he plays rugby for the local team.
