Accident in the tunnel
Paparazzi were chasing after her car and eventually the fateful accident occured in the tunnel of the Pont de l'Alma in Paris. Princess Diana later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Besides Diana, two other people died: her partner at the time, Dodi Al-Fayed, and Diana's chauffeur, Henri Paul. But although Diana and Charles were already divorced by 1997, the Prince was hardly left cold by the death of his ex-wife.
When Prince Charles heard about the accident, he immediately flew to Paris and went to the hospital Hôpital de la Salpêtrière, where Diana was taken at the time.
In her hospital room, he prayed for fifteen minutes and was accompanied by two priests who intoned the prayers together with him.
He wasn't alone
Charles was not alone with the priests, however, as Diana's sisters also came straight to Paris when they heard about the accident. Their presence certainly did some good for the weeping Charles. To be alone in this situation would have been harrowing.
But how do we even know that Charles prayed and cried? This is what a former driver and acquaintance of Diana revealed to TheSun.
A statue will soon be dedicated as a homage the Princess, at which Harry will also be present and for which he has written his own speech.
However, Prince Charles will not attend the ceremony in the Sunken Gardens of Kensington Palace on that day, he will instead attend an appointment in Scotland.
