The British tabloids love Meghan Markle. Well, they love her mostly to write negatively about her. Since she joined the Royal Family, she has been the subject of intense scrutiny which then led to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down as senior members of the Royal Family and relocating to Canada and then to the United States.

However, the distance hasn’t worked in preventing the tabloids’ obsession with the Duchess. Everything she does is scrutinised and lately, even things she doesn’t do make headlines. The latest trend about something Meghan Markle hasn’t done is whether or not she will run for office.
Meghan Markle to run for Senate
On 30 September, after the death of California senator Dianna Feinstein, rumours started flowing about Meghan Markle stepping up and replacing her.
At the time, Mirror reported that ‘according to a major Democratic donor close to Californian Governor Gavin Newsom’, the man who had to pick Feinstein’s replacement, the chances of Meghan Markle running were ‘not impossible.’
According to a second source talking to Daily Mail, even though Meghan Markle would be a ‘long-shot’ it still wouldn’t be impossible for her to run for senate or even be picked for the role. Indeed, according to yet another unnamed source, Meghan Markle would have made a good replacement as Governor Newsom promised to replace Feinstein with a woman of colour. But he also is faced with the fact that all the traditional choices have already announced they would run for the Senate seat in 2024.
The source explains:
Governor Newsom cannot elect any of those candidates to the position now as it would be seen as a huge, and very unfair, advantage.
If he puts any of the very good black women candidates in the job now he will be accused of favouritism. So he needs to find a woman of colour who can do the job for 13 months and will agree to not stand against any of the seasoned politicians who have already thrown their hats into the ring.
There are not that many women who fit the bill. Which is why Meghan's name is being bandied about.
This isn’t the first time since the Sussexes relocated to California that rumours of Meghan running for office have surfaced. The Duchess has never commented on any of them.
Does AI think Meghan Markle could become President of the US?
We asked AI a very simple question: could Meghan Markle become President of the United States? As usual, its answer isn’t the most specific. Instead of giving us a yes or no answer, it gives arguments for its possibility.
It says:
The prospect of Meghan entering politics is, to some, an intriguing one. Celebrity PR expert Jane Owen believes that Meghan's brief experience in public service and her husband Prince Harry's knowledge could make her a viable candidate.
Owen pointed out that Meghan's status as a former royal and her vast platform of supporters could be advantageous. Her background as an African American woman would also allow her to speak from the perspective of two minorities, a unique position in American politics.
While the idea of a former actress and royal entering politics might raise eyebrows, history has shown that celebrities can successfully transition to political roles, as seen with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The question remains: Could Meghan Markle become President? It's not an impossibility, as American politics has seen its fair share of unexpected twists. However, she would need a strong campaign, reputation management, and guidance to be taken seriously. Meghan Markle's journey into US politics, if it ever occurs, could be a significant chapter in both her career and the American political landscape.
And as for her cherished title of Duchess of Sussex, even if the highly unlikely scenario of her becoming President unfolds, it appears her royal connection and title are here to stay, solidifying her unique place within the royal lineage.
