Princess Kate’s diet is the latest to be questioned. Although the Princess of Wales has never explicitly revealed what she eats on average, sources have shared some details. Moreover, as a member of the Royal Family, Princess Kate has royal protocols to follow, and one of them is linked to food, especially when travelling.

Princess Kate allegedly follows the ‘Dukan Diet’

As reported by Express, the Princess of Wales reportedly avoids two food groups as part of the ‘Dukan Diet’. Sources have claimed that the mum-of-three typically avoids dairy products and carbohydrates.

Instead, she favours lean proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats. Reports have also claimed that Princess Kate regularly drinks smoothies with lots of greens. Per the publication:

[Princess Kate] drinks smoothies morning and afternoon, containing spirulina, kale, matcha (a finely ground green tea powder), spinach, lettuce, cilantro and blueberries.

It should be noted that some healthcare professionals have warned against the ‘Dukan Diet’ due to its restrictiveness and its alternating phases.

What is the Dukan Diet?

The diet’s phases include eating unlimited lean protein and 1.5 tablespoons of oat bran daily, followed by a 'cruise phase'. The ‘cruise phase’ consists of alternating between eating lean protein one day and non-starchy vegetables and protein.

It is then followed by consolidation, where you eat unlimited lean protein and vegetables, plus some carbs and fats. The last phase of the diet is stabilisation, where you follow the consolidation phase, but it is much more relaxed.

Again, whether or not she follows this diet has yet to be confirmed by the Princess herself, but there is one food restriction that she has, which is more of a royal protocol. She is to avoid eating seafood during overseas trips to limit the risk of food poisoning. However, that's a rule that Kate Middleton has been known to have broken in the past. Indeed, in 2016 she tried a piece of geoduck sashimi during her royal tour of Canada. Hello! Magazine reports that sushi is one of her most favourite dishes—so one can understand the temptation!

What does Princess Kate typically eat in a day?

Now, despite not knowing explicitly what Princess Kate eats in a day, Harpers Bazaar has listed a likely meal plan the Princess follows.

Per the magazine, Princess Kate starts her day with a bowl of porridge (oats for our American readers). The mum-of-three accompanies this with a green smoothie.

Princess Kate reportedly favours a light lunch, typically consisting of antioxidant-rich watermelon salad, which sees the juicy fruit mixed with avocado, onion, cucumber and feta cheese. Another favourite of the 43-year-old is vegetable kebabs and lentil curries.

Like most people, the mum-of-three also snacks between meals. According to Harpers Bazaar, Princess Kate’s go-to snacks are raw fruit and vegetables, as well as the superfood, goji berries. The Princess of Wales is also a fan of popcorn, having been seen at events eating the typical cinema food.

Princess Kate’s go-to dinner is reportedly a traditional roast chicken. However, she is also known to enjoy making pizzas with her family. Finally, for dessert, the Princess of Wales reportedly enjoys the British classic: sticky toffee pudding. Indeed, the couple’s former chef, Darren McGrady, revealed it was Kate’s favourite sweet treat.

When the Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, she likely tweaked her diet to maintain her strength during treatment.
