Following Donald Trump’s win in the presidential election on November 5, it has been called into question whether Prince Harry and Meghan will leave the US. This question has mainly arisen because of Prince Harry's visa controversy and the fact that a close friend of the couple has allegedly left the country.

Are Prince Harry and Meghan leaving the US?

As mentioned above, a close friend of Prince Harry and Meghan has left the US following Donald Trump’s win. Indeed, it has been reported that Ellen DeGeneres has left the US with wife, Portia De Rossi.

However, according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, the royal couple won’t follow suit. Speaking exclusively to OK!, she explained that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have just enrolled Archie in school in California. She also claims that Meghan enjoys being close to her mother, Doria.

I don’t think they have any plans to move from California. They seem to love their life there…Sun, sea and freedom have a lot to offer. Meghan loves being close to her mother, who plays a big part in their lives.

Bond adds that Prince Harry now refers to the US as ‘home’ and that their children are settled, so moving may not be the best option.

The children are settled and Harry has said he now regards the United States as home, and when he does come back to the UK he spends the shortest possible amount of time here before flying off again.

Nonetheless, Jennie Bond suggests that perhaps since Ellen moved to the UK, her house may be an option for the couple to stay when they visit or spend a holiday in Prince Harry’s home country. She does add it’ll be unlikely if the security issue is not resolved.

I’m sure they’ll miss Ellen…but maybe they will stay with her if they ever come visiting. But that’s not going to happen while Harry remains in litigation over security.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s allegedly Portugal home not finished

The couple may not be returning to the UK any time soon, but it was rumoured a while ago that Prince Harry and Meghan bought a home in Portugal. As per The New York Post, the home is believed to have cost the couple £3.6million ($4.7 million). It is one of 300 residences at the 722-acre Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club, a development about 81 miles south of Lisbon.

However, according to recent reports, the home isn’t ‘complete yet’. A source told Express that the Portuguese villa was not purchased to be a permanent home, but more of an ‘investment’ and a ‘holiday retreat’.

The villa in Portugal is more an investment than anything else and construction hasn’t even been completed yet.
It hasn’t been purchased as a new home, but more as a holiday retreat and something they can put their money into to protect their assets.

Per The New York Post, the royal couple purchased the home following the likely chance that Donald Trump would win the election.

However, according to Express, the couple were prompted to buy the home by Princess Eugenie, who splits her time between Portugal and the UK. Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank own a home in Melides, just south of Lisbon.
