Shephard took over This Morning with Cat Deeley, as the two replaced long-time hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, who returned to Dancing on Ice and not This Morning after kidnapping threats. While currently enjoying a well-deserved summer break from the show, Shephard revealed he has been diagnosed with ADHD.

Ben Shephard reveals his ADHD diagnosis: ‘It runs in the family’

The 49-year-old has had some doubts about having the condition for a while now. In 2022, he mentioned that he didn’t have an ‘official diagnosis,’ but he had his suspicions. He previously said:

I don’t have an official diagnosis. But a member of my family has been diagnosed with it and it’s usually hereditary in some capacity.
I did a few tests online that have indicated that I do have a leaning towards that side of neurodiversity, undoubtedly.

The official diagnosis was confirmed recently, as Shephard explained that the disorder ‘runs in his family,’ reports Entertainment Daily.

ADHD often leads to difficulties in managing time and maintaining focus, which can make achieving a work-life balance challenging. For Shephard, this has been particularly evident in his tendency to become hyper-focused on work, sometimes to the detriment of his personal life. In a recent interview, he shared:

I’m bad at switching off and look at my phone a lot for work, which drives Annie mad. I have ADHD, it runs in my family, so I can navigate several different channels at the same time.

The This Morning host shared that his diagnosis has been eye-opening, helping him to better understand the challenges he's faced throughout his life, particularly in balancing his work and home responsibilities.

Despite these challenges, Shephard is looking forward to returning to This Morning after his long break.

When are Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley returning to This Morning?

Ben Shephard and his co-host Cat Deeley have been absent from This Morning since 11 July 2024. The presenting duo left their responsibilities to a set of guest presenters, including Craig Doyle, Rochelle Humes, Joel Dommett, Rylan Clark, Josie Gibson, Dermot O'Leary, and Alison Hammond.

The two have been on their summer break, and as the season draws to a close, they are expected back at the helm of the show. Shephard and Deeley are due to return to the studio in a couple of days, as show bosses have confirmed that the two will be back on This Morning on Monday, 2 September 2024, reports The Mirror.

Shephard and Deeley were brought on as part of a major reshuffle, and their debut was met with mixed reactions from the audience. Rumours that the duo had fallen out appeared in the news, but Shephard confirmed that this is not the case. Praising Deeley, he said in an interview that they are ‘so similar,’ and Deeley added that they get along well.
