It looks like Chris Hughes is moving into acting! The reality TV star has been cast in a feature film alongside British legends Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels; Snatch; Celebrity X Factor) and Keith Allen (Kingsman: The Golden Circle; the Sheriff of Nottingham in the BBC’ s Robin Hood; Lily Allen’s dad).

The fifth instalment of Rise of the Footsoldier
The film is the fifth in Rise of the Footsoldier gangster film series and will tell the true story of Tony Tucker, who was a member of the Essex Boys, murdered in 1995. As its title suggests, the film will be set earlier than the previous instalments, in the late 1980s and early ‘90s.
Vinnie Jones will be playing one of Tony Tucker’s associates, Bernard Mahoney whilst Allen is taking on the role of a nightclub owner. Meanwhile, Chris Hughes is set to play a football fan–it’s not clear how big the role is. Whilst the first film had a cinema release in 2007, all three sequels so far have been direct to DVD so we probably won’t be seeing Chris in cinemas anytime soon.
From the little screen to the big screen
Although he’s had plenty of presenting and reality TV gigs, this will be Chris’ first foray into the acting world. It’s not clear yet whether this is a one-off or if Chris is hoping to launch a Hollywood career. He’s not the first former Islander to turn to acting though, after 2018 winner Dani Dyer also starred in a film after leaving the villa.
Whether it’s a permanent career move or not, we can’t wait to see Chris show off his acting chops in his new role. It’s been a year of ups and downs for the former Islander as he split from Little Mix girlfriend Jesy Nelson during lockdown in April. Although hopes were initially high for a reunion, she has now moved on with actor Sean Sagar.
