Maura Higgins was rumoured to be the next host of the most-watched show in the UK, after the Dancing On Ice star shared a picture standing beside an infinity pool overlooking the sea with her back to the camera, with a caption: ‘Do one winter…’. But the queen of fanny flutters is preparing to compete and the timing was just not right.
Maya Jama, Rick Edwards and Olivia Attwood were also rumoured to fly to South Africa. The mystery was finally solved this morning when Laura Whitmore shared a snap this morning confirming she'll be hosting Love Island and After Sun starting January 12th.
In her official statement, Laura referenced her friendship with Caroline Flack and confessed that the circumstances were bittersweet:
'I want to thank ITV for trusting me at the helm of this huge show. I wish it was in better circumstances; Caroline is a brilliant host and friend. We’ve spoken a lot in the last few days since she stepped down. She has been very kind to me and strongly pushed me for this role. I’ve watched her host every series and know I have big boots to fill. I will try and do it justice.'
Following the announcement, the ex-Love Island presenter took Instagram to share a story in which she revealed she is 'trying to keep her head above water'
We can't wait to see Laura in the villa, we reckon she'll be amazing!
