Creator confirms Bridgerton may run for eight seasons

The Crown, The Queen’s Gambit and now, Bridgerton. Lately, Netflix has been providing some binge-watching gold and we’re definitely here for it. Not only did Bridgerton deliver on intricate outfits, LGBTQ inclusion and a strong female lead, but they also had some rather steamy sex scenes.

Now, the streaming platform has announced that the ‘Gossip Girl-esque’ regency show could run for eight seasons.

Bridgerton based on eight novels

True Bridgerton fans won’t be surprised by this move though as the Netflix show is actually based on an eight book series written by Julia Quinn.

Chris Van Dusen, the creator of Bridgerton has also confirmed that he would be more than happy to continue with the series, adding that the books provided plenty of stories to tell. He spoke to Collider about his desire to explore the other siblings:

I feel like the first season was primarily about Daphne and her love story with Simon. But, this being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings.

Cast members excited for a second season

Although Van Dusen may be wanting to explore the other siblings' stories, cast members Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page have different ideas of where they think the show should go. Speaking to Elle, Phoebe (who plays Daphne Bridgerton) said:

I want to see Daphne get involved in Anthony's love life a bit, as he sort of meddled with hers quite a lot. I think that will be fun.

Regé-Jean Page, on the other hand, revealed that he would love to the second season further explore his character’s (Simon Basset’s) marriage to Daphne. He told TV Guide:

They get married very young. They still have a lot of growing to do. They have a lot to do, and I think it'll always be fun to watch them do that together.

SadlyNetflix has yet to officially confirm a second season for the show, but after reaching 63 million households in just four weeks, they’d be silly not to deliver!
