House of the Dragon is the Game of Thrones spin-off we’ve all been waiting for. After the original HBO hit which ran from 2011-2019 had us glued to fan theories, European medieval travel destinations and rooting for ruling Houses, House of the Dragon couldn’t have come sooner.

HBO gets us, because the show which premiered on August 21, 2022 had a record-breaking 10 million views, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No need to fret for the end of season one because the news is out and the show is coming back for season two. Here’s what we can expect next from the fiery medieval drama.

When will season two be released?

Filming the epic fight scenes and landscapes of House of the Dragon is no easy task. Season one took 10 months of filming before any dragons could even be added for special effects post-production. If everything goes as planned, fans can expect a new season release by the fall or summer of 2024.

Whose in? Whose out?

If you’ve ever watched Game of Thrones then you know the show's tagline, ‘valar morghulis' which from Valyrian (the invented language used in the original series) translates to ‘all men must die’ (rough, I know). So, try not to get too attached to your favourite characters just yet because at any moment, you know—the mantra lives on. The return of main faces like Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen and Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen are safe bets down the line and possibly Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower and Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

What’s the reaction from fans?

Every great show always has an equally great if not better fanbase. Look no further than fan reactions on social media like Twitter where #houseofthedragon has already hit 100k + tweets. The memes, critiques and theories are still rolling in as the series airs but so far the show has been well received with many drawing comparisons of Game of Thrones.

'House of the Dragon' airs on HBO MAX on Sundays, check out the official season one trailer here:
