According to an insider who spoke to the Mail Online:
ITV need to decide in the next two weeks whether they go to Australia or Wales this year. It's decision time! Wales is pencilled as we know but clearly everyone wants to return to Australia. However if they choose Australia there is every chance it could be cancelled later down the line because of Covid If they choose Wales, it is guaranteed it will happen.
Australia currently has one of the toughest border policies in the world as the country has managed to drastically reduce COVID cases and return to close to normal life. They were initially expected to reopen their borders in October but this may now be pushed back until 2022, with only those with a special exemption allowed in before then.
Meanwhile, Ant and Dec recently told Lorraine:
It's still all up in the air, people are having conversations with Australia to see if they'll let us in. If not, we've got a lovely alternative to go back to Wales, which we had a great time there. We had a really lovely series and the people of North Wales made us feel very welcome.
