Whilst Love Island 2021 is still far from a sure thing, ITV producers are reportedly looking for key workers to take part in the upcoming series and are particularly interested in signing up nurses and doctors. According to a source who spoke to The Sun, ITV bosses are keen to find ‘hot and brainy’ Islanders for this year’s series. The insider said:

The team have had over 100,000 applications and have been looking for talent with a bit of edge. Some of the best contestants over the years have been those who don't just want to be famous - those with some real ambition, a solid career and a story to tell, especially of the key worker variety.
Key worker Love Islanders
Several former Love Islanders have continued their jobs as key workers during the pandemic. Series 2 star Rachel Fenton has been working as an orthopaedic clinical nurse specialist. Meanwhile, the pandemic also inspired Love Island 2019’s Anna Vakili to return to her previous job as a pharmacist when the pandemic started in April last year. Malin Andersson also returned to working as a carer for the elderly.
Love Island series 4 star Dr Alex George has also been on the frontline working as an A&E doctor in London, whilst also using his influencer platform to share information and mythbust false information. He was also recently appointed to the role of Mental Health Ambassador to the UK government.
When will Love Island 2021 air?
There’s still no fixed date for Love Island’s return, although hopes are high that the show will be back this summer. It’s not yet clear whether the show will be filmed in the usual Majorca villa or whether producers will be forced to relocate to the UK in order to comply with ongoing coronavirus measures.
