Love Island fans were dealt a double blow earlier this year when it was confirmed that both this summer’s planned series of Love Island and next January’s winter series had been cancelled. With continuing uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, we now won’t be getting a new slice of villa action until summer 2021.

But there’s finally some good news – as ITV are reportedly making a series of Love Island reunion specials to air this summer. The channel are keeping their cards close to their chest and we’re yet to have confirmed details – but it looks like the shows could feature stars from a range of series, with Kem Cetinay, Amber Gill, Dani Dyer and Paige Turley all expected to be taking part.
According to a source that spoke to The Sun:
ITV were gutted about pulling the plug on Love Island. It’s one of their most popular shows and also a huge commercial success. It just wasn’t feasible to go off to Mallorca and shoot at the villa, but this is a great way to get the show on air and give fans something to tide them over before it can return properly.
It sounds like this new spin-off series could be the ‘Gogglebox-style’ show that was rumoured in May, which will see the former Islanders getting together to watch over some of their own most iconic moments on the show. If so, we can be sure that there’ll be plenty of drama, as producers will be sure to set up some awkward rewatchings.
The ITV source teased:
Hopefully, the best-remembered names will agree to take part as it would be brilliant to see how they get on a few years later after so much has gone on in their lives. It could rekindle romantic feelings but it could also just start a load of old rows, especially as there have been a lot of messy break-ups and friendship changes.
