After coupling up with stunning model and surfer Lucie Rose Donlan on Day 1, everything seemed to be going very well for Joe Garratt. Whilst Joe and Lucie reconciled, with the surfer choosing him at the second recoupling, viewers complaints about his behaviour escalated - as Ofcom received hundreds of complaints about his actions.
Meanwhile, domestic abuse charity Women's Aid made a statement - praising Love Island fans for challenging this kind of behaviour, saying: 'Abusive relationships often start off with subtle signs of control, so it’s important that it is recognised at an early stage. Love Island viewers are now very vocal in calling out unhealthy behaviour between couples on the show, and this is a positive development.'
However, other viewers, along with Joe's friends and family, have blamed the show's producers for portraying him in a bad light - pointing out the fact that we only see one hour of edited highlights from each day - and suggesting that Joe has been misrepresented.
In his first interviews since leaving the villa, Joe has spoken out for himself for the first time - revealing that he had no idea of the way his actions were being portrayed whilst he was still on the show.
