Love Island 2020 won't be filmed in the UK

After rumours that the next series of Love Island could be filmed in a UK location due to coronavirus restrictions, bosses have insisted that the next series will be filmed in Majorca as usual. However, the unprecedented situation could mean the series filming as late as November.

Whilst soaps and dramas have halted filming and reduced their output, the fate of live shows due to be recorded over the summer still hangs in the balance. This week, it was rumoured that the next series of Love Island might be filmed in a UK location if restrictions stop production and contestants travelling to Majorca.

Destinations touted for a potential UK villa included London, Glasgow and the Isle of Wight. However, many fans were dismayed by the idea of Love Island being filmed in the UK – as it would mark a huge change for the show, which usually shows contestants lounging around the pool in their swimwear.

Now, a source has claimed a UK villa won’t be happening, telling The Sun:

Reports that bosses are looking at London as an alternative are rubbish. Love Island is all about the sunshine and those skimpy outfits around the swimming pool as well as the sexual chemistry between the girls and boys. It has that holiday vibe which they just wouldn't be able to ever replicate on a dreary Wednesday in September in London.

Instead, they say bosses are still planning to film in Majorca – but later in the year than usual:

By delaying the start until the end of August or beginning of September they're pretty confident it will be able to go ahead there. It's still a way off and they are taking one week at a time but they are speaking to their fixers in Spain and the advice was to delay it until then. The weather is still amazing in Mallorca right up until the end of November. So even if it doesn't start until September the six-week run will not be affected.
