When Love Island finally returns to our screens this summer, it will have been off-air for around a year and a half. Whilst the coronavirus situation remains uncertain, show producers are determined to make sure that it comes back with a bang (no pun intended) and are set to pay big bucks to make sure it happens.

Speaking to the Daily Star, a show insider revealed:
Everyone is keen to make this happen. Strictly and Dancing on Ice have happened against the odds and they’re determined that Love Island can do the same… Discussions around the budget are happening. It’s definitely going to be the biggest in show history.
Why will Love Island 2021 be so expensive?
Some of the measures that are set to cost money include flying three times as many contestants over to Majorca as back-up in case others get ill and have to quarantine. There will also be extra costs involved in quarantining contestants in separate hotels prior to their villa entrances.
Producers certainly won’t be short on contestants to choose from, as there have reportedly been over 100,000 applicants to Love Island 2021 already. Rumour has it producers are also lining up some contestants with celeb connections. There’s still time if you fancy shooting your shot though – as applications are remaining open until the end of April.
When is Love Island 2021 on?
Whilst producers seem determined to bring back Love Island this summer, no start date has yet been confirmed. The show is rumoured to be planned for July and August but as we know, anything could happen these days. Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling, who are expecting their first child very soon, are expected to return to host and narrate the show respectively.
