Show executives are doing everything in their power this year in order to ensure the mental well-being of future islanders. This follows backlash after many argue that not enough care was provided to those who featured on previous series of the show.

Producers have included drug tests to their application process this year as a method of eliminating upcoming contestants who may be tempted to play down their mental health issues in order to appear on the show.

“But there’s a no-tolerance procedure, and people who take drugs regularly in the clubs on a Saturday night can come with a whole load of hidden physical and mental health problems. This year has been about seeking out clean-living contestants.”

The show is thought to be in a state of peril after many favourites tested positive.

“They’d already started whittling down the selection to their favourites before they began testing everyone. There were loads of people who missed out because they failed.”
