While the main aim of ITV’s dating reality show is to help people find love, Love Island does a little more than that too. Contestants who quit or put their careers on hold to be on the show are always in a win-win situation as long as they’re on the show. Meaning, even if they don’t win the show, they get paid to be on TV and in several other advertisements.

How much do Love Island contestants get paid per week?

All of this money that they make is before they leave the villa and return to a world full of lucrative fashion deals. Not everyone can be the next Molly-Mae Hague - Love Island’s richest star, but they do get something out of it.

Chloe Burrows, who split with her Love Island boyfriend Toby Aromolaran last year, revealed the amount each contestant gets paid to be on the show. According to The Sun, contestants get weekly payouts. Chloe revealed:

They asked me and Toby to go on this one, the Casa Amor one, but it was unpaid.

Talking about the salaries of regular Islanders, she said:

It's a game show, so it's like £375 a week.

Hello Magazine reported that Love Island contestants in 2019 received an estimated amount of £250 a week. The payouts come at the end of the show, so apart from the winner leaving with the grand prize of £50,000, they also get a few grand above it.

How do Love Island contestants earn money?

Chloe Burrows is not the only contestant who has talked about Love Island wages. Love Island 2022 star Jay Younger also revealed he got paid to be on the show, reported Closer Magazine. Jay confirmed that Islanders get ‘minimum wage’ while they’re in the villa and on-and-off extra payments for branded and sponsored content.

Speaking on The Big Jim Show, he explained:

Once they send through the contract, I think they pay you like £375 a week. It’s very low; it’s like minimum wage. £375 a week and they’ll pay for any ad hoc advertisements you do.
So like, you might be holding a bottle and they might pay you a fee for that. I can’t remember what that was.
They’ll pay you if you’re wearing certain sponsored clothes – if they see you on camera with that. But it’s not about the money, it’s about the exposure it’s meant to give you after.

The money doesn’t stop coming just as the Islanders leave the villa. Reportedly, they are also paid to go to various ITV events held after the show ends. Jay revealed:

They invite you to events after which they pay you like £1,200 – like an ITV commercial event, something like that.

Love Island 2022 star Dami Hope added:

The money's not that much.
