Love Island: Joey Essex's ex-girlfriend hints he's on the show for his career, 'He is quite ruthless'

Love Island bosses welcomed Joey Essex as the first-ever celeb bombshell of the show in this series. The star claimed that he was going on the show to find love away from his celeb status. He also appeared on I’m A Celebrity. During his jungle stint, he appeared to form a strong bond with former Miss Universe competitor Amy Willerton.

The two were inseparable on the show and fans thought they would become the next Katie Price and Peter Andre. However, Amy has now revealed what life actually looked like for them after the reality TV show.

Joey Essex wanted a fake relationship for his career, claims ex-girlfriend

Talking to The Sun about her former flame - who is currently coupled with ‘obsessive’ Samantha Kenny on the show - Amy revealed that after the two left the jungle things changed between them. She claimed that after their fling fizzled out, the people around her, including Joey, wanted them to have a fake relationship but she refused as she wanted ‘something real.’

She previously told Now Magazine:

If someone says to you: ‘Hey, let’s be in a fake relationship!’ you’re like: ‘No, that’s not what I want!’ I didn’t even know that kind of thing went on.

Amy added that Joey is ‘ruthless’ when it comes to his career and his priority at that time was furthering his career so much so that his ambitions made the two split. Speaking about his villa antics, Amy said:

I'm sure he'll have fun. He's a sweet guy, but I learnt that he is quite ruthless when it comes to his career.

I hope he really is ready to meet someone. He'd be a loving partner, but only when he is ready.

Love Island fans question Joey Essex’s appearance on the show

Amy’s remarks come right after many Love Island fans and viewers also anticipated that Joey had come on the show to revive his career. The 33-year-old has been on multiple reality TV shows in his career and Love Island was hopefully just the last straw for him to revive his career.
