We were kept waiting a long time for Love Island 2021 and now that it’s over we’re starting to miss it already. While we’re unlikely to have to wait another eighteen months for the next series, it also looks like we won’t be getting the next series of Love Island until next summer, as the chances of Winter Love Island returning are looking slimmer and slimmer.

There has only been one series of Winter Love Island so far, which aired at the start of 2020. It turned out to be really lucky it did, as the pandemic put paid to last summer’s series. However, the show didn’t return in January 2021, and now it sounds like there aren’t plans for it to return in January 2022 either.
Winter Love Island 2022?
In an Instagram Q&A this week, host Laura Whitmore was asked whether Winter Love Island would return. She replied:
I reckon it’ll be once a year, because last year it was six weeks, and this summer we did eight weeks which was a long ol’ stint. So I reckon one show a year. I don’t know, I don’t make the rules, but I reckon one show a year is perfect.
However, Love Island will definitely be returning next year as Love Island 2022 applications opened straight after the live final on Monday 23rd August. The invitation to apply asks potential Islanders if they fancy a ‘long hot summer of romance’ so it seems almost certain there won’t be a Winter Love Island 2022.
