They never actually got it on whilst they were in the villa together but 2019 Islanders Maura Higgins and Chris Taylor are fast becoming one of our favourite ever Love Island couplings. And now it looks like things are getting really serious between them as they’ve pledged to get married this year!

In an Instagram Q&A on New Year’s Day, a fan asked when the couple were getting married – to which Maura responded:
When are we getting married... Christ…
Which prompted Christ to add:
Oh God, erm... next year?
However, remembering it was January 1st, Maura quickly cut in by asking if he meant this current new year to which he responded that he meant sometime in 2022. But finally, when Maura complained about it being too far away in time Chris quickly changed his answer to 'this year'.
Maura Higgins and Chris Taylor’s relationship
Maura and Chris have had an unconventional Love Island relationship. Whilst most Love Island couplings form in the villa and – with notable exceptions– crumble after a few months together on the outside, Chris and Maura’s romance blossomed from their friendship in the year after they left the villa.
The pair grew closer and closer after Maura split from Curtis Pritchard at the start of this year. After months of rumours, they finally went public with their relationship at the end of November, with Chris posting a loved-up photo of them to Insta, captioned ‘turns out I fell in love with my best mate’.
How many Love Island couples are married?
If Chris and Maura do tie the knot in 2021, they’d likely become only the fourth Love Island couple to get married. Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowenwere the first Islanders to get hitched on 15th September 2018, followed by Dom Lever and Jess Shears on 25th October 2018. Finally, Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey wed in June 2019.
