Strictly Come Dancing: Amanda Abbington will not be returning for the finale, here’s why

Strictly Come Dancing has been a crazy journey for contestants and fans alike. After last weekend, the final three of the show are - Ellie Leach, Layton Williams and Bobby Brazier. As the final three battle for lifting the famous glitterball trophy for 2023, other contestants would also join them during the finale.

Casualty star Nigel Harman was the most recent celeb to leave Strictly on medical ground as he injured his ribs during rehearsals.

Amanda Abbington: Why will she not return for the Strictly finale?

However, weeks before Nigel’s exit from the the Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington left the show due to personal reasons. Speaking of her exit, she took to Instagram and wrote:

It is with deepest regret that I had to leave Strictly. I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue.

It was an absolute joy working with my fellow contestants, they are a beautiful, hardworking and talented group of people who I love and who I will miss seeing every Friday and Saturday and competing alongside.

I want to thank the incredible Production team and everyone on Strictly who looked after me and who are so kind and caring. It’s a wonderful bunch of people and I’ll miss all of them.

I’m so sad that I am unable to go any further. Thank you to everyone who voted and who sent wonderful messages and inspiring support. You are all amazing. Truly. Thank you. Xxx

After the shock exit, it has now been confirmed that Amanda will not be returning to the show’s finale. A spokesman for the programme said:

Amanda decided to withdraw from the competition, therefore she will not be returning for the final.

Meanwhile, her professional dancing partner Giovanni Pernice will be appearing on the show this weekend, reported The Sun.

This comes after the speculation of the feud between the two grew more as Amanda failed to address Giovanni in her goodbye announcement. On the other hand, Giovanni specifically paid tribute to her after the exit as he shared a picture of the two cuddling in Christmas jumpers on Instagram. He wrote:

I am so sad we can't continue but I am proud of what we achieved and I am sending you so much love.
