It’s not been a great week for Strictly Come Dancing. On Thursday, Robert Webb announced that he was withdrawing from the competition on doctors’ orders after experiencing symptoms related to his open-heart surgery just two years ago. Now, retired rugby player Ugo Monye has also revealed he won’t dance this weekend.

Ugo Monye won’t dance this weekend
After scoring an impressive 31 for his Couple’s Choice dance with Oti Mabuse, Ugo has been advised not to dance this weekend by doctors due to ongoing back problems. Ugo and Oti had been due to dance the Viennese Waltz this week. Unlike Robert, Ugo is hoping to be able to return to the competition and will simply be taking this week as a bye.
Sharing the disappointing news with his fans on Twitter, Ugo said:
Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to dance this weekend on the show. I have a history of back problems which has always been managed under the guidance of medical professionals. Unfortunately this has been causing me some unwanted problems this week! I have been advised by medical professionals and with huge support from Strictly to get some treatment & rest to ensure that I can get myself back to full capacity and fighting fit for next week.
Bye week
Ugo revealed that he would be watching this week’s show from home and cheering all his fellow contestants on. He’s not the first contestant to have to sit out of a week of Strictly 2021. McFly star Tom Fletcher and his partner Amy Dowden had to miss Week 2 after testing positive for Covid.
We’re wishing Ugo a speedy recovery and we can’t wait to see him back in the ballroom next week!
