However, Sherlock star Amanda Abbington’s pairing with Giovanni Pernice hasn’t received the love they expected.
Strictly fans disapprove of Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice together
Amanda’s pairing was one of the first couples to be announced with series favourite and former winner Rose Ayling-Ellis - Giovanni Pernice. Both Amanda and Giovanni appeared happy with the pairing as Giovanni said:
I've been doing this show for a long time now and I have never had a reaction like this. She was very happy which makes me happy obviously.
And Amanda added:
The thing I'm most excited about is being in the rehearsal room.
However, many viewers at home were left disappointed with the pairing. They took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared their disapproval. Some of them said:
Why is Giovanni being punished like this #Strictly
Struggling this year because Strictly is normally so positive and wonderful but Amanda Abbington should not be given screen time. Hopefully the public will see sense and vote her off early
Not @pernicegiovann1 doing a same sex pairing last year to now being paired with a known transphobe & terf Amanda Abbington. That’s disappointing #StrictlyComeDancing
Looks like I won't be supporting Giovanni this year, then
One even thought that Amanda got ‘booed’ on the live show as they tweeted:
Did Amanda Abbington just get booed on #Strictly

Why does the public seem to dislike Amanda Abbington?
If you’re wondering why many viewers dislike Amanda, it comes as a reaction to one of her tweets about a show aimed at parents and their babies aged from newborn to two resurfaced online.
The tweet - posted by Abbington back in March - was about a drag baby sensory cabaret show stating that ‘a semi-naked man in thigh-high boots dancing in a highly sexualised way shouldn’t be performing in front of babies.’ Many critics went on to label her as ‘transphobic’ and many even vowed to boycott Strictly when Amanda’s candidature was announced.
