Although Love Island was one of the most successful TV shows of 2018, it certainly hasn't been without its controversies. Aside from the recent debate as to whether the producers of the show provide enough mental health aftercare to contestants, the programme has long been criticised for failing to portray a wider range of body types amongst their contestants.

Many people have slammed the so-called 'Love Island effect', saying that the show makes young women - and men - feel bad about their own bodies when they see all of the 'perfect' slim women and men with six-packs on the programme.
Whilst it did look like things might be different this year, producers of the show have now denied that rumours of increased body diversity came from them - and emphasised the fact that they have always 'endeavour[ed] to have a diverse range of contestants appearing on the programme'.
