Great British Bake Off During Coronavirus
This year the pandemic put a halt to many tv productions across the UK and GBBOwas not given a free pass. In fact, season 11 was delayed due to coronavirus. However, Channel 4 assured that the show could film provided all those involved followed strict social distancing measures. All cast and crew also had to isolate together for two-weeks before filming began.
Back in July, all 120 people involved in the show, from bakers and judges to crew members and support staff all moved in together at Down Hall Country House, all to ensure that the UK would once again be able to relish in the hilarious goings-on in the famous white tent.
Kelly Webb-Lamb, Director of Programmes at Channel Four stated that she wanted the show to maintain a sense of ‘normality’. She told the observer:
The whole point of the bubble [was] being able to be close to each other or pat people on the back, or it wouldn't be Bake Off.
And, Kelly isn’t half wrong, what would the Great British Bake Off be without the handshakes?
This season GBBO also welcomed famous face, Matt Lucas, to the hosting line up. Taking over from Sandi Toksvig, it’s safe to say that Lucas has done a great job so far. Not only does he have unmatched comedic chemistry with Noel Fielding but his debut as Boris Johnson had everyone clutching their sides.
