As reported by The New York Times, beachgoers at the popular Daytona Beach Shores in Volusia County, Florida were flummoxed to find a mysterious object protruding from the sand. The discovery has left everyone confused about what the huge 80 feet object could be.
The object was buried in the sand
No one has been able to determine how long the object has been buried in the sand. Recent hurricanes in the area caused severe sand erosion on the beach, which is partly the reason why the object became visible.
The object reportedly seems as if it is made out of wood and metal. It has not been completely unearthed yet since it is partially submerged in the high tide of the ocean.
Kevin Captain, a spokesman for Volusia County is quoted by the report as saying,
The state underwater archaeological team has been notified to investigate further.
Theories about what it could be
News about the mysterious find has spread far and wide already via news and social media. Many have stepped up to offer their theories about what the object could be.
Tamra Malphurs, a spokeswoman for Volusia County Beach Safety states,
It is a mystery. Many people think it is an old ship of some sort.
Regarding what the object is really made of, she further says,
There could be some kind of metal there. We are not positive.
On social media, people are also speculating that the mysterious object could be a barrier, a piece from a shipwreck or maybe even a portion of an old pier. A final verdict on what it really is is currently awaited.
