Baby left in a car under the sun
The tragedy took place in Louisiana. On her way to work, Ivy Lynn Lee decided to leave her daughter in her car in the sun for several hours. When she noticed that the child was not breathing, she called police officers for help, who transported her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, reported the Daily Mail.
While investigating, the officers asked about the whereabouts of Ivy. At first, she mentioned that the child, Rissa, was not 'in her care' however, later she changed her statement and confessed to leaving her 6-month-old daughter in the car before leaving for work.
She then claimed to have left her car running before a colleague told her it was still on. Without realising the consequences of her action, the mother returned to turn off the engine. Calcasieu Parish Chief Deputy, Gary 'Stitch' Guillory, stated to WAFB:
She knew that baby was in the car and she chose to go to work for an entire shift. There is no excuse.
Mother charged with second-degree murder
The initial stage of the investigation revealed that marijuana was found in the vehicle. The 22-year-old mother is also accused of having 'intentionally' left the child in her seat in the heat. She has been charged with second-degree murder and has been remanded into custody. Her bail is set at $1.2 million.
This is not the first time the defendant has been involved in such a case. Police have confirmed that she previously left her other daughter, Avereigh, in a car in 2019. Now aged 3, the little girl has been placed in the care of another family member. Last May, Ivy Lynn Lee wished herself a happy Mother's Day. She wrote on Facebook:
Being a mother is certainly not easy, but the love you receive from your children is unconditional.
