Giving birth midair
In an attempt to give herself and her growing family a second chance at life, Soman Noori alongside her two children and husband boarded a flight from Dubai to Britain. But once in the air, the woman began having contractions and was eventually forced to have her baby delivered in the aeroplane without the help of a doctor. Thankfully, Turkish Airlines flight attendants were trained for this very situation and were able to assist the woman in giving birth. One of the flight attendants present during the events explained:
There are various trainings we receive, one of which is childbirth. On our flight today, we had a passenger who declared that she was pregnant and that she was in pain.
Before adding:
Necessary intervention was made by my entire team. As a result, we had a healthy and beautiful birth and we had a beautiful baby.
Not the first of its kind
But this isn't the first time a baby has been born under similar circumstances. Earlier this month, another Afghan refugee woman was force to deliver her baby mid-flight as a result of the rushed departure to seek refugee status from the Taliban.
As the woman flew on a US Air Force C-17 Globemaster evacuation flight, she went into labour before ultimately landing safely at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. In a post on Twitter, the Air Mobility Command explained:
During a flight from an Intermediate Staging Base in the Middle East, the mother went into labor and began having complications. The aircraft commander decided to descend in altitude to increase air pressure in the aircraft, which helped stabilize and save the mother's life.
And added:
Upon landing, Airmen from the 86th MDG came aboard and delivered the child in the cargo bay of the aircraft. The baby girl and mother were transported to a nearby medical facility and are in good condition.
