Whilst holidaying in Italy, the last thing you would expect is falling into a volcano. This is what happened to one American tourist whilst he was visiting Mount Vesuvius, Italy. The only problem is he isn’t only going home with a few cuts and bruises.

Trying to take a selfie
Sky News reported that a 23-year-old tourist was visiting Mount Vesuvius and fell into the volcano after dropping his phone.
Wanted in Rome media said that the man was trying to take a selfie at the top of the volcano when his phone fell out of his hand, he tried to get it back. However, the tourist lost his balance and ‘fell a number of metres into the mouth of the volcano’.
As a result, volcano guides, who were being supervised by a helicopter, abseiled down the crater to rescue the man.
He suffered from a few cuts along his arms and back.
Being charged by police
Not only did this American tourist fall into a volcano as they tried to take a selfie, but they could also face charges for ‘invasion of public land’ according to The Independent.
Indeed the tourist and three relatives had taken a banned route to the top of the crater. There they had an incredible view over the city of Naples. The route they had taken was clearly marked as ‘highly dangerous and out-of-bounds’ according to Wanted in Rome.
