An Iranian media source called the Tehran Times interviewed him to find out more about his particular lifestyle, notably about the fact that he decided not to bathe himself for over three decades.
He self-isolated
Amou lived in Deigah, a city in Iran when he decided to isolate himself from the rest of civilisation. According to him, he was happier this way and said at the time that even though he doesn’t have many possessions.
During the interview, Amou also spoke about his favourite foods - rotten porcupine meat and armadillos, and confessed that he he cuts his hair by burning it off.
It is unclear if the man went viral before or after the said interview, but photos of his soot-covered face and hands have been all over the internet for a number of years now. He even earned the title of the 'World's Dirtiest Man.'

What happened to Amou Haji?
Unfortunately, Amou Haji passed away in 2022 as confirmed by local media. According to The Guardian, it comes after villages forced him to take a bath a few months earlier. It is not known whether his first bath in three decades led to his eventual demise, however according to Euro News, he did become sick shortly after.
Local media reports that he died at the 'healthy age' of 94.
For now, no one else has replace him as the 'World's Dirtiest Man'.
