Tributes
The woman, from Wolverhampton, travelled to Istanbul last month to have excess fat removed from her hips. The surgery took place at an unnamed clinic in the city’s Bahcelievler suburb on October 22.
She was discharged after undergoing the procedure, which was initially described as successful. But two days later, Brown ‘suddenly’ took ill and died within hours.
Friends and family have been paying tribute to their ‘close friend’ and a ‘beautiful soul’. One post said:
This must be a dream. Still can’t come to terms with this yet.
Another equally shocked social media user wrote:
I miss you angel. I’m devastated you were taken away way before your time.
Investigations
Local media are reporting that the plastic surgeon, who operated on Brown, was in the process of changing the dressing on the patient’s wounds when her condition suddenly deteriorated. She died later that day.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and the doctor, whose name has only been given as S.G.B, has been taken into police custody.
Some media outlets have reported that the surgeon told police he had no idea what caused her death after she suddenly fell ill.
A post-mortem has been carried out at the city’s Forensic Medicine Institute. However, the results have not yet been made public.
Following the examination, the woman’s body was sent back to the UK for burial.
