100 candles for a memorable night
One of the romantic surprises the man had planned was to light 100 tea candles in the apartment in order to set the mood. As romantic as this sounds, it could also go horribly wrong. Who doesn't remember the scene from The Office US when Michael Scott proposes to girlfriend Holly...
So far, nothing to alert the press. But this is when things get a little more complicated...
After lighting the 100 candles, the man left the flat to collect his girlfriend only to come back minutes later to find it ablaze and emergency services on the way!
The Sheffield police posted on Twitter to warn the public about the dangers of leaving candles unattended.

Last night three crews were mobilised to a flat fire in Sheffield. They dealt with it quickly, as ever, before trying to establish what caused it.
So, a quick chat with the occupant revealed that this room had been filled with 100s of tea lights.

Emergency services were able to respond quick enough and no one was injured in the blaze. And the best part? The young man ended up still making his proposal, and she said yes!
Still, the Sheffield police would like to share some tips to ensure accidents like this don't occur in the future. They concluded their post with this message:
As romantic as they are, and as much as we all love 'em, candles can be SO dangerous. Please, please: extinguish them properly when you've done, don't put them near flammable items, like curtains, don't leave 100s of tea lights unattended. That'll be all, folks!
