How a knife fight impregnated a girl without a vagina

Not quite an immaculate conception, but an ‘oral conception’… A medical journal details the incredible story of a girl without a vagina who got pregnantafter giving oral sex and being stabbed in the abdomen.

The story involves the girl and two boys - her current and former boyfriend. The girl was discovered by her ex giving oral sex to her boyfriend and this resulted in a knife fight that wound up with all three of them in hospital. Now for the craziest part: the girl returned just over nine months later complaining of pain in her abdomen. She was pregnant, and gave birth via C-section to a healthy baby boy. But how was that possible? And who was the father?

The medical report

The medical report describing this jaw-dropping event was entitled Oral conception. Impregnation via the proximal gastrointestinal tract in a patient with an aplastic distal vagina. It was published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1988 and has boggled minds ever since.

The reports says that the girl was taken to surgery, where they investigated the nature of her wounds. They remarked that she had suffered a ‘single stab-wound through the abdominal wall’ and that her ‘stomach was noted empty’. The doctors closed her up and she stayed in hospital for 10 days before being discharged.

When she came back 278 days later with these mysterious stomach pains, she and the medical staff were astounded to discover she was actually experiencing contractions as - despite not having a vagina - she was about to give birth.

The girl’s medical condition

The 15-year-old had what is known colloquially as a ‘blind’ or ‘dead-end’ vagina. The NHS describes this condition, called Rokitansky syndrome:

Some females are born with an underdeveloped womb or without a womb, cervix and upper vagina.

In this case, the girl had a womb but not a ‘normal’ vagina, meaning that she couldn’t have intercourse or give birth naturally. At the hospital, she explained to doctors that she had never even had a period - so she hadn’t considered it a possibility that she was carrying a baby.

A possible explanation

The doctors concluded that the unlikely fellatio-knife-fight series of events had led to the conception of this child. The team speculated that sperm must have entered the body through the wound made by the knife, and started the reproductive process:

A plausible explanation for this pregnancy is that spermatozoa gained access to the reproductive organs via the injured gastrointestinal tract.
It is known that spermatozoa do not survive long in an environment with a low pH. But it is also known that saliva has a high pH and that a starved person does not produce acid under normal circumstances.

As for the fact that the girl was yet to have a period, the doctors offered this explanation:

It is likely that the patient became pregnant with her first or nearly first ovulation otherwise one would expect that inspissated blood in the uterus and salpinges would have made fertilization difficult. The fact that the son resembled the father excludes an even more miraculous conception.

Thankfully, the baby was born with no further complications, but this remains one of the wildest pregnancy stories we’ve ever heard!
