Among these festival-goerswas a couple, Nick and Bobbi Ercoline who had been together for 3 months at the time of the festival. They were photographed like thousands of other people, except thatthe photo was used as the cover of the festival's triple live album.
In the photograph, taken by an American photojournalist from the Magnum news agency, Burk Uzzle, they can be seen hugging each other, wrapped in a blanket. Fifty years later, the couple is still togetherand perfectly embodies the peace and love spirit of the festival.
Nick and Bobbi Ercoline said ‘I do’ to each other in 1971 and they have been in love ever since. They live not far from Bethel, a small hamlet near where the festival was held. Since then, they have become true symbols for other festival-goers. The couple explained:
Every year further from it you look back and you realise -- that was really something pretty phenomenal
The couple gave an interview to the New York Post, which asked them about their relationship. This was their lovely answer:
That’s a pose that you can see every morning in our house. Either in the bedroom or the kitchen, first thing in the morning or the last thing at night.
Love is beautiful!
