In order to show how she feels, Bekah decided to get a tattoo and chose to have one that said, ‘I’m fine’. But when you look at the tattoo more closely and from another angle, you can see another message in the tattoo saying, ‘save me’, which is clearly a distress signal.

In reality, the young woman suffers from depression. As the tattoo shows, people suffering from depression can seem to be happy, but deep down, they can really be suffering. Bekah knows a lot of people who suffer from the same problems she does and wanted to raise awareness about the issues on her Facebook page.
She also explains the reason for getting her tattoo.
‘So today, I got this tattoo. I feel that my leg was the best place for the meaning behind it. When everyone else sees it, they see ‘I’m fine,’ but from my viewpoint, it reads ‘save me’. To me, it means that others see this person that seems okay, but in reality, is not okay at all. It reminds me that people who may appear happy, may be at battle with themselves.’
Bekah was strong enough to share her distress with others and thanks to her message, she has been able to raise a lot of awareness about depression; a condition that affects millions of people every year. With this message, she hopes that people suffering from depression like her will feel less alone.
The lesson to take away from this is as follows. Appearances can be very misleading; never forget to tell the people you love how you feel!
