'Witches' at the root of the case
The police quickly established that the dog, already considerably wet, had been thrown not once, but twice! A brutal gesture that the officers had difficulty explaining. Until the man in his forties, later identified as Shannon Lee Cantrell, confessed to them that he had received an order from 'witches'. This was a bizarre statement that the police found difficult to take seriously at first.
Finally, at the man's insistence, it was decided to take him to the Spartanburg County Detention Centre, and to start an investigation and psychological follow-up, with the charge of 'cruelty to animals'.
Poor dog traumatised
The police report indicates thatthe poor animal fell more than ten metres. While the dog, only one year old, escaped physically, his mental state suffered. 'Clearly shaken' by the incident, he was taken to Greenville County Animal Care for evaluation. To protect him permanently from his tormentor, his property was deeded to Spartanburg County.
