When you work in a hospital you really do see it all. A unique baby with a perfect heart-shaped birthmark on her tummy was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England in February 2022. The ‘real-life cupid’ child was named Jorgia and according to her mum, midwives 'couldn't believe it' when they spotted the symbol of love on the little one.

A real-life cupid
Jorgia was born on 22 February 2022, arriving three days early via a planned C-section.
The family knew they were having a girl and the paediatrician was amazed when they noticed the red marking on the baby’s tiny tummy. It sat on the left side, in line with her belly button.
A proud mummy Jayne Welch, a care assistant, said:
When she was first born, it was only a little red mark, but in a perfect heart shape.
Medics told the 37-year mother and her partner, Joe, that the heart would likely disappear with age. However Jorgia's symmetrical love symbol has only grown in proportion to her and remains clearly visible ahead of her first birthday next week.
Ms Welch added:
Doctors thought it would fade, but it hasn't disappeared or faded. Jorgia is growing up quickly, it's grown with her and in perfect proportion.
Jorgia and her perfect birthmark
According to the family, Jorgia's birthmark has been the talk of her midwives and health visitors since she was born. Everyone who meets her loves it and always wants to see it. She is known as ‘the little girl with the perfect love heart’ and her parents ‘are grateful there are no medical concerns about it’.
They said:
It's just a beautiful and unique part of her.
At the time, Ms Welch said she was planning to get a love heart tattoo on her left side, copying her daughter's unique birthmark.
She commented:
I really hope if it does stay as she gets older that she will love it as much as we do and that she won't be self-conscious about it. We love our February-born baby girl and her very unique love heart birthmark.
What are birthmarks?
Birthmarks are coloured marks on the skin that are present at birth or soon afterwards.
They are very common and most types do not require any treatment at all.
But some may need to be treated if they are interfering with health. For example, a type of mark called haemangiomas causes a lump to form under the skin.
It may need to be removed using a laser if it is near an area that could cause problems as a child grows, such as their eyes, nose or mouth.
