Christina Fischer already had an 18-year-old daughter and did not feel able to bring up a second child alone when she fell pregnant at 36. She, therefore, made the difficult decision to go through with the pregnancy and give the baby up for adoption.

However, when Abigail Lynn was born with Treacher Collins syndrome, a genetic disorder that had not shown up in any tests over the course of the pregnancy, the adoptive mother left the hospital, saying that she was 'deformed' and Christina never heard from her again.
Christina then decided that she would raise Abigail Lynn herself and now says that she 'couldn't imagine living without her'.
