The undersides of Theresa’s eyelids were covered in small black clumps of mascara that had fallen down and embedded themselves into her mucous membrane. The doctors had to act very quickly so that she didn’t lose her sight and immediately performed an operation which lasted an hour and a half under general anaesthetic.
“I had fallen into a bad habit of wearing a lot of make-up and not washing it off. I should have never let it get this far. It’s so important to properly take your make-up off every single night,” says Theresa after her misfortune.
Her doctor explains that “Every time Theresa was blinking, these bumps were rubbing on the surface of the eye and they pose a risk to her vision […] this is a risk not many people are aware of.” This is especially scary when you think about how many women use mascara every day!
